Finding Calm in the Storm: Supporting Children’s Emotional Regulation Through Creativity and Play
Jan 15, 2026
Some days, it feels like your child’s emotions have taken over the room. A small frustration can quickly turn into tears, shouting or withdrawal. You try to help, but the usual strategies don’t seem to work. The worry builds, not just about the moment but about the long-term impact: “Will my child ever learn to manage these big feelings? Will they feel safe and confident in themselves?”.
Emotional regulation isn’t something all children learn easily, especially those navigating neurodivergence, sensory sensitivities, anxiety or early developmental challenges. For parents, the desire to support their child can feel overwhelming when the tools seem out of reach.
At Inspired Art & Wellness, we understand. That’s why we created Inspired Children’s Nourish program, to support Early Childhood development program to support children’s development, physically, mentally, cognitively and emotionally.
Emotional regulation is about helping them feel seen, understood and guided in discovering their own inner calm. Our approach uses play-based experience, mindfulness, creative art expression, nature and animals as a gentle, effective way for children to process feelings, practice self-soothing and build confidence.
Through play, children learn without judgment. They explore stories, create imaginary worlds, or move their bodies in ways that help release tension. These moments become opportunities to practice patience, cooperation and resilience, all while feeling safe and supported. For example, a child frustrated in play will be guided with play, creative expression and mindfulness, learning to pause, take a breath and try again; skills that ripple out into everyday life, helping them manage emotions in school, at home and with friends.
Play also empowers parents. Observing your child engaged in play provides insights into how they experience the world and how best to support them. We offer guidance and practical strategies to bring these lessons home, so the growth continues beyond the session. We also support families in how to best support their child at home as we support them here. Parenting online workshops will also be offered based on positive and gentle parenting principles.
